NEVER AGAIN will I start a book, game, or movie hoping that my favourite character makes it through. It just won't happen.
I am not just talking Harry Potter, either! Harry Potter just started the paranoia. It opened my eyes to the heinous character killing going on all around us. This is indeed a serious problem. This is something I have encountered in over thirty different "fandoms" and it's not making me very happy. ========================================== My list: Harry Potter, the da Vinci Code, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inkheart, the Hound of the Baskervilles (dead serious), Pirates of the Carribean, Dragonball Z, The Bartimeaous Trilogy, severall Redwall books (most especially The Long Patrol), the Chronicals of Narnia (Last Battle), the Wyrd Museum, Varjak Paw, The Invisible Man, Call of the Wild, Moby Dick, Kingom Hearts, The Matrix, All Quiet on the Western Front (but we all expected that one, really), Cirque de Freak, Age of Mythology, Things Fall Apart, Le Miserables, National Treasure II, Eragon, Brokeback Mountain, Timeline (movie), Stolen, 300, King Arthur, Animal Farm, The Last Samurai, the Outsiders, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Digimon, The Dark Knight, Naruto (WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DO THAT), Sounder, Quarentine (lol), The Great Gatsby, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead,

========================================== Comments ========================================== Feel free to share your tragic character deaths (but if it's something that's been out for less than a year, please include a spoiler warning!).
I don't reply to every comment, but I read every comment. And I appreciate all the props this stamp is getting. Thank you all!
I've had somebody mention how it's neat that such different forms of literature and movies are all in the same list. Shakespeare and Naruto? Agatha Christie and Invader Zim? It's just neat that people of so many different tastes can come together. :') Lol.
Here is a great deviation in the (sad) spirit of favorite characters being no more: [link]

I just started liking one anime like a year after all my friends got into it so every time I start talking about a character I like I get informed they die in the newest chapthers, blah -.-;
It's a nastym stupid tool. A companion dies, but the hero thrives on. Death shouldn't be used like this, a tool to emphacize the greatness of the hero. It should be final and ultimate. It can be the finish of the story, so that you never know whether the end will be happy or not. It can be the ultimate sacrifice.
...and the story is really good when the death IS the happy end.
Thanks.
Yeah, it's a common tool, but I'm totally against it. It makes characters seem so indespensible. I mean, after the entire book, the whole journey, and they die, was it worth it? Asfter all that way they get nothing? Injustice!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant.
